Playoff Joe Time!

Is it me or do Joe (and Jon Miller, for that matter) sound extremely glum with the Oaklandcomputerland Computers leading 3-1 in the ninth? Rondell White's seventh inning homer got them super excited, but Frank Thomas' insurance tater in the ninth cast a pall over the broadcast booth.

Plus, there's this from Joe:

I’ve said this before. I think this Oakland A’s team can go – I mean, you know – they’re better equipped in my opinion this year to advance than they have been in the past, and I think a lot of that has to do with the way Macha manages and the fact that now you have a Frank Thomas in the middle of this lineup.

The way Macha manages? He's been the manager for four years now. What is he doing differently this year?

I'm not saying they don't hate the A's. But I think the noise in that building has to be a factor.

I don't think it's unreasonable for a broadcaster's tone to be swayed a little by thousands of screaming fans. It's part of the story of the game.

You could also argue that Jon and Joe were excited at the prospect of a Twins comeback, which would have been exciting. That's fine.

I like my announcers to be impartial automatons whose only "comments" are electronic bleeps and bloops.
