By my count, he gave up a lead 18 times during the season. I don't know what's typical, but 18 seems like a lot if you're making Kay's argument. He started 60 innings with the score tied and gave up at least a run 20 times -- about average, if I remember correctly -- but a total of 36 runs, 1 unearned.
