Man oh man.
I felt that – to be considered the best pitcher in the league – the winner had to be able to win big games down the stretch and lead his team to the postseason...Carpenter deserved this award.
Even if you believe this, here are Chris Carpenter's stats for his last four starts in September:
21.2 IP, 22 ER. He went 1-3.
Granted, St. Louis had the race won, but come on -- if you're going to have a crazy rationale for giving someone an award, at least pick one that supports your thesis.
